Bryce Canyon National Park

The day got off to a rough start.  We stopped at a pullout in Red Canyon to get some pictures and I locked the keys in the car.  We are so careful about that, but I must have hit the lock button as I got out of the car. Of course, everything was in the car.  One of our friends in the other car, had her AAA card and called.  She and I stayed and waited for AAA while the others proceeded on to the visitors center.  In about 45 minutes, we were back in business-  Good service!

Things got better quickly when we got in the park.  We were greeted by this Proghorn mama and twins as we drove into the park.

Bryce is just spectacular.
We started by driving up to the top of Rainbow point.

We drove back down stopping at most turn outs and view points.
We had a picnic lunch along the way.
We decided to do the Navajo trail hike.  It is a 1.3 mile loop that goes to the bottom of the canyon and back up.   You really need to hike down in the canyon to truly appreciate it.

From the bottom of the canyon, you can really gain an appreciation for the wonder of how the canyon was formed.
It took millions of years of water and wind. It was a really fun hike.  There was a group of choir students hiking with us.  They serenaded us with several tunes as we traversed the switchbacks on the hike.  Doe a deer, a female deer, ray a drop of golden sun.........:)
It was a truly great day. I can't believe it took me 35 years to get back here.
Bryce is a truly magical place.
Tomorrow we move on to Zion!

  1. Gorgeous pictures of one of my very favorite places. You sure are hitting the high spots, Arches, Bryce Zion. Are you going to climb Angel's Landing??

  2. I think being serenaded by the soundtrack to the Sound of Music while hiking the canyon sounds just about perfect :)

  3. The picture of you two standing near the ledge made me cringe. You're braver than I would be!

Our Nissan truck sometimes locks on it's own. We don't know why, but we try to always have a key or a window down. Our other Nissan did the same thing.
