Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon

We arrived at Lake Powell about 11:00 AZ time after a fairly short drive from Zion.  We got set up and made a grocery store run.  We had a tour of Antelope Canyon scheduled for 3:30.
Antelope slot canyon is located on Navajo land and you must be taken in by one of the tour companies.  It is really fantastic like being in a different world.

Our guide helped us with how to use the light to get good photographsHe was really adept at getting great shots with the iphone.  It was like a photography class in addition to a tour.
Thursday, we visited the Glen Canyon Dam Vistor's center in the morning and took a boat tour of the lake in the afternoon.

I have vacationed at Lake Powell and been on the lake before.  It was fun to watch everyone's reaction as that large boat drove through the narrow canyons.  There are over 100 canyons on the lake and taking a boat back in them is an amazing experience.  We could not go as far in the tour boat but a small boat or a kayak can really get back in there.  The blue water and the canyon walls are just beautiful.

Yesterday, we moved back to Colorado.  We are in Cortez to visit Durango and Mesa Verde National Park.  This is the last stop on our group tour.

  2. Just love your pictures of Antelope Canyon. I really cannot wait to see it in person. Feeling as I do about the Glen Canyon Dam, Lake Powell will never be on my list of places to visit. Hats off to all those including Ed Abbey who tried to stop the flooding of that gorgeous canyon. Looking forward to your posts on Durango and Mesa Verde. Both great spots. This is some tour you are on.
