Central City, Colorado Elevation 8490'

The drive to the Denver area was beautiful.  We saw several Pronghorn Antelope but I did not manage a picture.

The Breeze did great over Raton Pass.  However, we did unhook before tackling the steep grades on 1-70 west of Denver.  The engine brake did its job (even on an 8% grade- no downshifting necessary). We could have stayed hooked up until our exit. The road up to the campground was reported to be windy with several hairpin turns and it was.  So, we decided just to unhook a bit early and not strain the rig.

We got to the campground about 1:00.  We have a nice level site with a great view out the front windshield.  The mountains are beautiful. It is sunny and 66 degrees. Tomorrow we are going to hang around here and check out Central City. Thursday we are going to Denver  for a visit with our friend Summer and her new baby Austin.

  1. Can you tell us the name of the campground? I'll be heading for Casa Grande, AZ, when I leave MN in September, and I'm looking for good suggestions of places along the way to stay.

  4. Very smart to unhook just in case. You can't be too careful in those CO mountains. They bring new meanings to the word "Steep".

  6. 66 degrees sounds sooooo nice.

Pat told me to tell you they might sell their Honda Element and you had expressed interest in it previously.

  7. Sometimes going downhill can be more difficult than going up - glad to hear you had no trouble with either.
