That turned out to be a good move because Sunday was the last day Devils Garden (home to the landscape arch) would be accessible during our visit, due to some road work. So, we drove up to the top and did a little impromptu hiking.
It was a bit windy but otherwise a beautiful day. It really would have been a great hike had we been properly shod. We had boots in the car but I had taken out our socks to wash them.
We returned on Monday morning to continue our tour of Arches. It really is a magnificent place.
We spent most of the morning exploring and photographing the different Arches.
We ate our lunch as we drove over to Canyonlands. It is a beautiful drive up on the mesa.
I took a dirt road called the Schaffer trail. I thought it was great. However, I was scaring my traveling companions so we turned around and stuck to the paved road.
Canyonlands is really beautiful. I thought it was every bit as impressive as the Grand Canyon.
We have a little down time this morning. This afternoon we are going for a Jet boat ride in the canyon. Tomorrow we head out for Panguitch and Bryce Canyon.
You are certainly doing a whirlwind tour of some of Utah's finest places.
ReplyDeleteOH MY...your next to the last photo, the one of the stone pillars, is SPECTACULAR!!! Definitely have to put Canyonlands on ourTODOS list:o))
ReplyDeleteYou sure are having an awesome summer!
ReplyDeleteWhat are the temperatures like there this time of year? I always thought it would be too hot to go in June. Really glad to hear you enjoyed them both so much. Comparison to Grand Canyon is high praise. We have been trying to get there for 4 years and something always gets in the way.
ReplyDeleteBryce will knock your socks off!! Actually, you can't go wrong almost anywhere in southern Utah! May be hot this time of year - but so, so, so worth it!! Enjoy!
ReplyDelete. . . and I will enjoy your photos until I can get back to my favorite place :-)
Beautiful photos of one of our favourite parks. Arches is spectacular with so many great spots to hike or just drive around and look at the scenery.
