Trip to Myakka

We got pictures from home of  Mama deer bringing her baby to the house. What a cutie.  I hope they are still hanging around when we get back.
Yesterday, Phiona was in the service bay getting her new TV cables and other issues taken care of so we decided to take a drive out to Myakka River State Park.  It was always one of our favorite places to camp. We spotted some Sandhills on the drive out to the park.
We were anxious to see the new campground since it was built after we left.  We are hoping it has plenty of room for Phiona.  It does....
Nice long sites, 50 amps and full hook up - perfect.
We can not believe how much water is in the lake.  We have never seen it this full.  The last time we were here, the gators were fighting for territory, as the lake was drying up.  We only got a glimpse of a few gators.  They have lots of room to spread out with all this water.

They have a new store and restaurant - really nicely done. As we were driving out, we saw a red shouldered hawk catch a lizard but I missed the picture.
We also saw a troop of feral pigs.  This cute baby is proof that they are doing just fine :(.  They really are so destructive.  It was nice to see the park again.  The thunder started roaring so we headed over to Siesta key for some lunch.
We found a nice restaurant where Grace could join us on the patio.
Today, we are going to hang around Lazydays.  We met a couple in Las Cruces who live here in Tampa.  They are coming out to visit and to talk about full timing.
See you down the road...

  1. Glad to see the new campground at Myakka. We never have camped there. Most people love the state park, but we never understood why. I guess we need to go check it out better.

  2. We were at Myakka last January and the water was so low you couldn't kayak with some issues;o)) We had the van and stayed in the smaller-older campground. Really like the location, but the new one is well laid out and looked very nice.

Oh, I made the Banana Oatmeal Cookies...Yum, Yum, Yum;o)))

Hope Phiona is feeling well after a tough day;o))

  3. Looks like a great campground but I guess there is no swimming with gators around.

  6. Funny how a longer MH makes you look at campsites with a differant eye. No matter what, you're going to enjoy that extra room.

Sad to see how the ferel pigs are taking over and destroying so much. Wonder what, if anything can be done to control them? Hope they find a way.
