Failure to Launch

We took the drivers confidence course this morning.  We both felt good behind the wheel.  Although I had the same trouble as Syl, looking for the brake :).  When we got back to our site, the coach was waiting.  We talked to our salesman and decided we would all have lunch and then take it for a drive.
After lunch, we got in pulled in the slides and hit the button to lift the jacks - UH OH.  The front jacks would not come up.  If you notice in the picture below they are just barely above the ground.

So, there is a big item for the punch list.  They got them up for us and we took her for a drive.  Catherine pronounced her good and we bought her.  But we ain't leaving until those jacks are fixed. :).

They offer an extended warranty here from Cornerstone RV. I have never been much of an extended warranty person but several bloggers have mentioned having them and using them.  So, if you would not mind commenting with your experience - have it - yes or no- happy with it- yes or no- I would appreciate the feedback.

  1. We never buy extended warranties but plan to get one before our year is up. It seems that most of the customers there that we chatted with decided to get an extended warranty too.
As for driving, it does take a bit to get used to, but it's a much sweeter ride.

  2. We also are not normally big fans of extended warranties, but, we figured since this was our home we wanted full coverage on everything (except normal usage stuff) for at least 5 years. As far as how it works we haven't used it yet. Good Luck, Bill & Nancy

  3. The extended warranty I bought for this coach cost around $3000. It has already paid for itself more than three times over. Sure glad I had it. :)

  4. We are not extended warranty people and do not have one. So far, paying for all repairs out of pocket for 2 years, we are far ahead of the game. That said, it is a gamble. We could swing the other way just as easily, but we feel comfortable taking that gamble.

  5. We didn't take out an extended warranty on our new 5'er when we bought it 2 years ago - no issues so far. But, if I was buying a MH it would have been a whole different story as there is a lot more to worry about.

Two things you have mentioned would cause me just a tiny bit of concern. One was the vibration problem they found and fixed (loose bolt) and now the jacks not going down - you're not off the lot yet. Things happen in three's some say, so I'd be just a bit wary.

  6. I have one and it costs me $3.77/month. It covers me for 7 years/100K miles with $100 deductible. So far it has already paid for itself and we have a couple of years left on our policy, which I think I'll renew if offered.

One surprise was they have a fixed labor pay rate ($95/hr) and on the repair labor rate at the shops was higher ($125/hr & $150/hr) so I had to pay the difference. Still, it was worth it.

  8. We have one on the Cougar, but not sure how good its going to be. We haven't had to use it, because Keystone honored the warranty for the cracked black tank last November, but the repair people had put the claim into both, and the extended warranty was only going to pay about 1/3 of the total bill. I would have pursued it with more aggression if Keystone hadn't come up with the coverage.

  9. Our 2004 Winnebago Brave doesn't have an extended warranty. Up until now we've done about $2500 in repairs that we paid for. That doesn't include and routine stuff or replacing the awning and slide toppers but I'm not sure an extended warranty would cover the latter just because there was a tear. So we might have been better with an extended warranty depending on what it cost, what it covered and for how long.
