Sun Sets On Our Port Aransas Adventure & One Of Those Travel Days

On our last night in Port Aransas, we hit Moby Dick's for happy hour one more time. We were two down as a couple of our party had already departed.  We decided just to head back to San Antonio and then we will go to the hill county next week.
This morning we got up early (I did not sleep well at all).  The guy who washed the rig (Miguel) came by to do some touch up and get paid :).  He was working on the rig as we walked out front of the RV park to say good buy to our friends headed back to Kansas.  After about 30 minutes, he rushed up and said - jump in my truck, there is water pouring out of one of your bins. -- OK - rewind- when we first arrived at Port A, our water pump started leaking. I ordered a new one and decided to let one of the mobile techs install it, rather than doing it myself.  This morning, I had unhooked the water hose and turned on the pump to pressurize the system.  Apparently, the tech did not get the "quick-connect"  snapped all the way in because a hose came off the pump and made a big mess.  Fortunately, Miguel had a shop vac and sucked up all the water for us quickly.  From now on, I will just do it myself.  At least when I mess up, it does not cost anything.
We got everything dried out and hit the road.  We got about five miles and I noticed that the top of one of the "glued" front panels was catching some air.  We had one come loose on us and scare us to death last summer.  I was not taking any chances.  We pulled over and I put a screw in it.
We only had about 145 miles to travel. The plan was to hit the Loves truck stop, get a Subway and buzz on to San Antonio.  We get to the Loves about 12:30 and all of South Texas was there. The gas is 10 cents higher than any other station but you would think they were having a big sale. They were covered up  with cars  and RV's.  We just kept going.  We stopped at the rest stop down the road and there was no place to park there either.  We finally just pulled over on the shoulder of the rest stop exit road and fixed some lunch.  Sheesh...
We stopped for gas and then pressed on to SA and got checked in at Stone Creek.  We pulled in to our site and I  unhooked the truck. We have a Toyota pickup and in order to pull it, we have a drive shaft disconnect.  You disengage the drive shaft to tow it and then engage it when you want to drive it.  I unhooked the truck and pushed on the lever to engage the truck.   It pushed down real easy - no resistance at all - hmmmm - that is not right.  I also noticed that the open door alarm sounds weak.  I turn the key - nothing.  Ok- first thing is to get it engaged. I crawl under the truck just in front of the back wheels and tell Catherine to push.  The drive shaft has a spline that has to be lined up before you can engage it. So, sometimes you have to roll the truck a little to get it lined up.  Of course, it looks like Catherine is trying to roll the truck over top of me and a neighbor comes running over asking if we need help.  He helps push and we get the truck engaged.  I noticed while underneath, that we lost the bolt that connects the cable to the lever that moves the drive shaft - it should be an easy fix.
Then we use the generator to jump the truck and we get it moved  and hook up the battery charger. We are all set up- having a big glass of wine. Just one of those days - nothing big or bad- just a lot of little things that made the day seem long.
We will be in San Antonio until next Wednesday.  See you down the road....

  6. Boy what a great attitude you have about that "one thing after another" day. I'm taking note and will try harder to emulate! Well done! Wine well deserved! Make mine Baileys.

  7. You handled all those challenges well. Just goes to prove if you're not handy with tools before you get an RV, you will be after you buy one. :c)
