This is the remains of the first rail tunnel in Texas. It was built in 1913 to carry agricultural machinery and supplies from Comfort to Fredericksburg. It is now summer home to about 3 million free tailed bats. They arrive in late spring and stay until August. Some are already here. We will come back later next week to check out the bat flight. After a short hike around Old Tunnel, we decided to take a different drive home. On the way, we saw more signs of spring.
Nothing cuter than a baby goat :) This little fella was a recent arrival. He was still struggling a bit to figure out how those legs were supposed to work. We then headed out to Luckenbach, TX. We did not find Waylon, Willie and the Boys but we did find...
The post office is now a gift shop with a saloon in the back. We also found the dance hall....
I bet a lot of boots have scooted across that floor. Out back there was live entertainment...
He was pretty good. The have live music every day. You can get a beer and pulled pork sandwich - sit and listen a while - Beer, BBQ, and country music in Lukenbach. It does not get more Texas than that. See you down the road.....
Yee Haw!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to get out and about. The rain sure makes things so much fresher than than drought.

SO TEXAS! Love the Luckenbach PO sign. I assume they moved the PO to somewhere else? Or did Congress in its wisdom close it??
ReplyDeleteYou made a great day out of an over crowded destination. Bet you had more fun than hiking with the hoards too.
Glad you 'spained that giant chicken was road art or I probably would have worn out my bird book trying to figure out what it was... :c)
ReplyDeleteA nice sunny day sure lifts the spirits! :)
