The Sun Returns

Yesterday, the sun came out. We decided to drive through Fredericksburg and surrounding area of the hill country. We stopped and took the first of many (I hope) wildflower pictures. The wildflowers are just beginning to bloom but it looks like there will be a decent number.  Last year, there were almost none due to the severe drought.

We did not stop in Fredericksburg because we wanted to get out and enjoy the sunshine.  We drove out to Enchanted Rock.  The Tonkawa Indians believed that ghost fires flickered at the top.
The Rock is a huge, pink granite exfoliation dome, that rises 425 feet above ground, 1825 feet above sea level, and covers 640 acres. It is one of the largest batholiths (underground rock formation uncovered by erosion) in the United States. It is a very popular area with hikers, climbers and folks just out for a Sunday jaunt.  If you enlarge the above picture, you can see a number of people climbing the summit.

With the recent rains, there was water flowing in the little creek and green grass on the banks.  It is amazing what some rain can do.  Everyone's spirits seemed to be lifted by the spring rains and the warmth of the sun.
Grace was sure enjoying it :).  We did not hike to the summit.  We plan to return later in the week and do that and the 4 mile loop trail.
We returned to Fredericksburg and indulged in a Biergarten dinner- lots of carbs. We should have done the hike first :) It looks like we are going to have a nice weather week.  There is a lot to see and do here.   We want to return to the LBJ Ranch, see the WWII museum focused on the war in the pacific, visit some wineries and take lots more wildflower pictures.
We noticed a chip in the RV windshield yesterday so we will need to work around getting that repaired but it should be a good week.  See you down the road...

  1. Being out in a lovely setting on a beautiful spring day is always so rejuvenating. Topping it off with German food for dinner is icing on the cake!
