Trip to the Zoo

Yesterday,  our plan was to check out a new exhibit at the Witte museum in San Antonio.  However when we drove by, we saw 5 of these parked out front....
Time for a new plan- It was a very nice day-92 degrees but with very low humidity.  So, we decided to have lunch and visit the San Antonio Zoo.  Our last visit was about 15 years ago.
We decided to try Cheesy Jane's for lunch.  It is a favorite of Catherine's parents.  They really like the burgers.  We were surprised at how much was on their menus.  Any burger could be done with turkey, grilled chicken or veggie burger and they had salads and sandwiches as well.   Of course, we went with the classic beef burger.

The burgers were very good.  I would not put them in the "great" category but very good.  The milkshakes also looked very good but we will have to try those another time.

We got to the zoo about 12:45.  There were not very many people there at all :)
San Antonio Zoo is a very old Zoo. It was started in 1914 by Colonel George Brackenridge. It is located in Brakenridge park along the San Antonio River. It is a beautiful setting, with many old live oaks for shade.
They have made quite a few changes, since our last visit.
They are renovating many of the exhibits to represent ecosystems with several species, rather than just enclosures for individual animals.  They have done a very nice job with the African and Australian exhibits.
They had lost of wonderful birds in various exhibits.  When you are a child, or with a child, you never stop to look at the birds.  Another good reason to enjoy the zoo as an adult, without the kids ;)
It was a nice visit.  If you like Zoo's, we recommend  this one.

This morning, we took the rig in to get our step fixed.  We are hanging out at Catherine's parents  enjoying their patio and pool, for the day.

The End!
You know, I walked all over the zoo looking for the perfect "end" shot :)

Nice that you were able to trade one "zoo" (with the five school buses it surely was) for a nice quite one.

  7. Those school buses would have sent me the other way too. Hope you get back to the museum though. Zoos make me sad. I never go. It seems like "the end" for the animals to me.

Burgers looked good but not sure I could have passed up a good looking milkshake.

Bet Catherine's parents are happy to see you guys. Parents with a pool, may be the best kind! :-)))
