Bike Ride, New Discovery

Hawaii?  No - San Antonio- Yesterday morning, we loaded up the bikes and went to Brackenridge park for a ride.
This is the same park that has the zoo and is also the upper end of the mission bike trail.   As we were riding, we saw signs for the sunken gardens.

We decided to check it out.  The sunken gardens or Japanese tea garden opened in 1919, in an abandoned limestone quarry.   It is nicely done and made for a great walk on a cool morning.
.

The stack from the Alamo portland cement company is still there.  This was the first portland cement company located west of the Mississippi river.  Cement from this location helped to build the Texas capital building in Austin.

Brackenridge is a beautiful park and golf course.  A great place to ride a bike or even ride a train :).

The Brakenridge "eagle" runs all around the park and the zoo. It was built in 1956 and at the time was the largest miniature railroad in the world - fun stuff.

Today, we are going out to visit some friends and see if we can help them with a few chores .

  3. That little train is too cute. Did you ride it? Can adults ride it?

That's a beautiful waterfall. Part of the sunken gardens in the quarry I assume.

Keep these "what to do in San Antonio" ideas coming. I'm writing them all down.

  7. That is one cool little train. I'd ride it but then I'd want to take it home with me. Some kids never grow up (but you probably already knew that!).
