Quiet Hill Country

We arrived in Stonewall Sunday afternoon.  It has been warm the past few days.  It cools down nicely in the evening though.   It is really quiet here as all the summer tourists are gone and the Octoberfest + Winter Texans have not arrived yet.
Monday, we went in to Fredericksburg for  lunch. We opted for the Silver Creek Cafe.  During the spring, it was always too crowded. This time we had it almost to ourselves. I had jager schnitzel and Catherine had fish and chips.
We enjoyed our lunch in the beer garden and were treated to some music by Lonnie Lett.  He was pretty good - singing a lot of old country favorites. We walked around town to let our lunch settle.  Later that afternoon, we stopped by a new winey (that makes at least 30 in the area), Four Points.  It is really nice.  They have done a nice job blending contemporary buildings into the hill country.  We tasted some nice wines and headed home.

Yesterday, we headed out for a bike ride.  We like this RV park not only because it is small and very budget friendly, but also because it is an easy bike ride over to the LBJ ranch.  It is a beautiful place to ride.  We saw Longhorn, deer and bison on our ride.

After lunch we drove up to Marble Falls and Lake LBJ.  We wanted to check out Sunset Point RV park.  It is really, really nice right on the lake - not so budget friendly :).  This is the kind of place we would really like to work camp.

We also drove over to Balcones Canyonlands NWR.  We were going to walk some trails but the wind had picked up considerably by the time we got there. We were also wearing sandels and the first sign on the trail -"beware of rattlesnakes." We walked around a little and headed home.  I did manage a good dragon fly picture while we were there.

Today our friends Barbara and Jan are coming over from San Antonio. See you down the road...

  1. Sounds, and looks, like a lot of nice places to visit and go for hikes - except for those rattlers!

Nice looking old house for a restaurant.

  2. Like that restaurant too. Fun place. Try Pecan Street Brewery (http://pecanstreetbrewing.com/) in Johnson City. It's fun too. We had a GTG at Peach Tree in April, it was quiet and friendly.

  3. Mmmmmm -- love German food, and that menu sounds yummy! Sounds like a good time to be there in between all the crowds.

  5. Gorgeous picture of a dragonfly. I'm envious that the LBJ property is just a bike ride away. Did I miss the name of your "budget friendly" campground. Sounds like I need to add it to my list.

  6. Sandals and snakes are probably not a good combination. Looks like a really neat cafe. I need my motorcycle so we can scout around more. Have fun!

  7. I don't like rattlesnakes even wearing heavy hip boots! Smart move running for the hills, rattlesnakes don't seem to have much of a sense of humor. ;c)
