Hiking, Biking, and Heading Out
Yesterday, we got up and going to the Seven Hollow Trail for a 4.5 mile hike. About 1.5 miles in, there is a natural bridge.
Here we are on top of one of the hollows or "hollers" depending on where you are from :). This is about 2.5 miles in and we are having a snack and a rest.
We hiked back up a rocky trail to see a large grotto which provides shelter for wildlife. Today only pigeons-not my favorite bird. It was a great hike but we were feeling it when we got back to the rig.
Today we walked down to the lake to catch the sunrise. It was a bit overcast but still pretty.
Yesterday, it was stunning but - no camera.
We decided to go for a bike ride on the CCC trail this morning. I got Grace's cart out. It has been over a year since she has ridden in it.
She got in but soon began to voice her displeasure with the experience. Lest the other campers turn us in for animal abuse, we took her back to the RV and went back to the CCC trail on our own. It was good that Grace bowed out
because there were quite a few hills and pulling that cart up a hill is not easy. I am thinking that cart may be one item we can jettison.
Along the trail, there was this tribute to the CCC who built Petit Jean State Park. What always amazes me is the craftsmanship in the work they did. I am sure we will see a lot more of it as we make our way across the country.
We are packing up this afternoon. We are heading down to Hot Springs and leaving Petit Jean to the weekend warriors of Labor Day. The whole place is completely booked. We highly recommend this as a place to visit. Even if you do not have an RV, they have a lodge (which is currently closed for refurbishment and will reopen in 2012) and beautiful cabins.
They have decks with picnic tables and grills and beautiful views. I am not sure when we will get back - but someday....
See you down the road.....

If you decide to sell Graces cart, please drop me an email. krisfarn@insightbb.com I have been looking at them for my chihuahuas. Thank you.
ReplyDeletePS I have your blog bookmarked and enjoy it very much.
Love seeing Petit Jean again in your blog. We were there in early May or there abouts and the campground was nearly empty. And then we went to Hot Springs...........great minds think alike. And blogger lost the fabulous blog I did on Hot Springs even if I do say so myself and never found it. No draft either. I spent a long time on it. So I'm really looking forward to your visit.
ReplyDeleteSherry -take full credit. I never would have picked Petit Jean; if not for your blog. I remember your Hot Springs post- it was good and we will divert so as not to drive through downtown Hot Springs :)
ReplyDelete"I am thinking that cart may be one item we can jettison." Jettison - such a perfect word for fulltimers! Although it seems wierd to me (like, when did all this extra stuff sneak in?", we are often looking to "jettison" something - just waiting for the right person to come along. Two days ago, I got rid of a wonderful backpack that I haven't used for 5 years. There just isn't enough space to carry around stuff you don't need, no matter how nice it is or what good shape it's in. I gotta' say, though, "jettison" makes me picture your rig going down the road with stuff flying out both sides. :)
ReplyDeleteI thing Grace has your number :) No extra exertion for her...R&R only in air-conditioned comfort :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen other people use those carts for their dogs. It's a good idea but probably best to learn how to ride in it as a puppy. Smudge would not adjust either and we know that she is spoiled.
ReplyDeleteSyl
We can't even get our dog to stay outside longer than it takes her to do her "chores." Poor baby's an old lady now, though, and likes the cushy carpet. :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great park!! Love the bike ride. Don't understand why puppy wouldn't love being pulled about in the fresh air....I would love it;o))
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice picture of you both on your hike. I'm impressed that you've trained Grace in how to use a camera! ;c)
ReplyDeleteWe met a couple on a trail in OR carrying a baby carriage down a steep trail. Inside their carriage was a dog!
