One of the great things about New Mexico is that in the fall, you often see balloons. This one landed just out side of the RV park , before we moved on Sunday. I wanted to share the picture.
I have forgotten to take pictures the last two days on the habitat job. Yesterday, Catherine went to clean and prep a house for tile, and I stayed and put up sheet rock. We just about finished the sheet rock. I will try to get a picture tomorrow. Last night my sister-in-law came for supper and to hide from trick or treater's ( we are in an adult only park ). She brought another construction project-
football posters!
Catherine kept saying "I thought the cheerleaders were supposed to do this stuff". Anne assured us, that it falls on the moms. So, we pitched in and produced 11 posters for the big Mayfield vs Las Cruces High game. I have not mentioned to my step-brother and family, that my mother was homecoming queen and my father was quarterback for Las Cruces High circa 1944. I have some divided loyalties. The big game is Nov 10 and I am sure it will get it's own post.
Today, our supervisor, Pete, told us that the house Catherine and team attempted to clean yesterday, needed more help. The homeowners had a friend who offered to texture and spray paint the walls. However they did not put down any paper, so they painted the floors as well. The paint had to come up before the tile goes down. It took a big crew until noon, to get it all up. Catherine and I are on the tile team, because we want to learn how to lay tile. Pete gave us our first lesson today. He walked through the house, gave us and JoAnne, some things to "think about", a measuring tape and then told us to decide where to start the first tile......
It took us about an hour of laying tile down measuring, discussing, measuring some more, discussing some more, and a little input from Pete to decide. So, we have ground zero for the first tile..
Tomorrow we start.. See you down the road.
Helping others while getting to learn something new!! Sounds like a real WIN-WIN:o))
ReplyDeleteNice job on the posters! Brings back memories when our son played football. I did not know that habitat would help train you for certain jobs, I thought you already had to have some skills. I will have to check into it further.
ReplyDeleteLove tile. Hate to lay it. Really, really hard on the knees :(
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to hear about the kind of things you are doing for Habitat.
ReplyDeleteSo, will I be able to get the big Mayfield vs Las Cruces game on ESPN this weekend to check out your signs??
ReplyDeleteYou girls sure are busy. Let us know if you make it to the Texas coast this winter. We'd love to meet up again
ReplyDeleteSounds like your shoulders and arms are holding up. Nice way to learn new skills. Are you going to put tile in your rig??
