Road Trip....Las Cruces

Yesterday, I hit the road in the toad, for a quick trip to Las Cruces to see my mom.  There is a new director at the facility she is in and I want to meet her.  They have also made some changes to mom's medication, as she has had some issues.  So, I want to talk with everyone and make sure things are still going as well as possible for her. I saw her for a little while yesterday and will see her and talk with the staff this morning.

It was an easy drive from Garden City- about 5 1/2 hours.   Judy asked how long we are planning to stay at home base.  We don't really know.  I found it emotionally difficult to be so far away from my mom, when we were in Florida.  I know I can't do much to help her, but it feels better to be closer.  So, right now we are just taking it day to day and we will do what feels right.

I spent hundreds of nights solo in a motel, while I was working.  It feels funny to be doing that again. It is a nice room and I enjoyed not having to work on a spreadsheet while I was watching TV last night :)

  1. You are SUCH a good daughter Jo Beth. What a lucky mother you have. Hope all is well with her and she's still helping everyone out.

  2. Understand your feelings about being too far away. It is true that there is very little we can do for them, but it just seems easier to be closer. However, I also realize that I need to live my life as well. So we balance the two as best we can. You are doing a great job of being sure mom is care for. Just be sure to live your life as well:o))

    1. Good advice- I know I will get there and I know she would want me to live my life. But, it may take a little time.

  3. You are doing the right thing following up on your mom's care. Marti has seen many cases where families just dumped their parents in her nursing home and never came around again, n.

You mom may not always be aware of things but I'm sure she feels your love.

  4. Have you tried to flush the toilet in the motel room with your foot yet? :)

  5. Isn't it wonderful that, if you feel you need to stay close for awhile, you can? No big house several states away and a job to get back to.
Nancy is right too. Hope you find a nice balance.

  6. It's an awful feeling to be so far away. I remember that feeling well. So glad you now have the freedom to come and go as often, and to stay for as long, as you want to.

  7. Staying close to mom is important. Thankfully you can stretch Phiona's legs a little and still enjoy the great southwest.

  8. It's great that you are being so good to your Mom and making sure she's getting the care she deserves. Too often a parent is just left in a facility and forgotten about.
