And, I am not talking about the weather :). Today we headed out to Central Market. That is the gourmet store for the Texas HEB chain. It is a really nice store and they are having their annual Hatch Chili Festival.
They are roasting Green Chili out in front of this store. They are also roasting in front of all the other HEB's. It just makes a New Mexico girl's heart happy. 25 years ago when I packed my bags and moved to Texas, I had to try to explain to people what green chili was and why it should be considered a food group :)Thanks to the good marketing from folks in Hatch, (just for the record , we grow more chili in Luna County than they do in Hatch) there are now green chili addicts all over Texas :)
The foodies at Central Market like to take everything to the extreme. So, here is a sampling from the prepared foods case of things to which green chili has been added.
They had: mac and cheese, chicken salad, pesto, pimento cheese spread, baked potatoes, scones, flour tortillas, sourdough bread and the weirdest- apple cobbler. We tried lots of things but only purchased - pesto, and two kinds of sausage with green chili. The apple cobbler with green chili was actually really good.
It was a fun way to spend a Sunday morning. After lunch, Catherine's parents came over to check out Phiona. Since their departure, we have just been hanging out. We are both tired, because last night we had storms all night. People told us to bring the rain to Texas, and we did. It rained all night. It will be early to bed for us tonight. See you down the road...
Nice that you got some rain. Too bad the storms tagged along with it.
ReplyDeleteAll of those things sounded real good with the green chili's.
ReplyDeleteIf you brought the rain to Texas, then why is it still raining so much here?
The Chili's look really good. The rain kept us up as well. Since being out west we forgot what it was like having a heavy downpour hitting the rig.
ReplyDeleteApple Cobbler and Green Chili? Now, that does sound a little extreme!
ReplyDeleteOh boy green chilis. I'm not so sure. My tender mouth likes sweets. Just HOW HOT are these?? Glad to hear you two are having a great time. This might be one time I'm possibly not wishing I were with you. But then, I've always been afraid to try anything described as hot after almost dying from a jalapeno on a pizza one time.
ReplyDeleteHot time in the old town tonight! Learned to love hot chilis during one tour where we had a cook from the great state of Texas. Made a believer out of me. :c)
ReplyDeleteOh YUM!!! I'm so sorry they don't have that celebration during the winter when we will be there. I'd probably have to stay all day :)
ReplyDeleteYum! My mouth is watering!
