Our friends, Joe and Carmen, treated us to a tour of San Angelo on Thursday. San Angelo is located on the Concho River, about 70 miles east of where we are in Garden City. They have done an excellent job preserving many of the historic buildings in the downtown area. We started our day with a visit to the San Angelo Fine Arts Museum. They specialize in ceramic works and had some very nice displays.
We continued our tour with lunch at Miss Hatties Cafe and Saloon where we enjoyed a famous bordello burger. Then, we did some shopping at Eggemyer's general store. They have all kinds of great stuff from toys to cookware and we picked up a few items. They took us to the Cactus Hotel to see the lobby.
The Cactus opened as the San Angelo Hilton and was the fourth Hilton hotel built in 1929. The lobby is really beautiful and so well preserved. It is now used by the community for special events. We had a fun day. Check it out when in West Texas. See you down the road....
Bordello burger, now that's a name for a burger!
ReplyDeleteToo funny. :c)
Mmmmm Miss Hattie's cafe and Saloon. LOVE the name. Did you meet Miss Hattie? I can see how a bordello burger would be too seductive to resist.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you girls are getting out and about. I love little General Stores
