Balmorhea State Park is located just North of the Davis Mountains. It is in a desert area and was slated to hit 107 degrees today. Why in the world would we stop at a desert park in the Summer? Because, the main attraction at Balmorhea State park is the pool :)
We arrived about 1:00 PM made a visit to the dump station and got set up in our pull thru site. We were happy to get a pull through because this is just an overnight stop. We are on our way to my hometown, Deming, New Mexico. My niece is getting married this weekend. We took a quick walk around the park but it was too hot for walking. I had to carry Grace because the hot pavement was hurting her paws. So, we got back to the rig, put our suits on, and hit the pool. The pool was build in the 1930's by the CCC. It is a 3.5 million (yes million) gallon pool. It is fed by San Solomon Springs. The water stays at 72 -76 degrees always. I can assure you that it felt very good.
After a relaxing swim and another walk for Grace, we have retreated in to the rig for showers, dinner and most important A/C. ;D . We will be pulling out early in the morning for Deming.
See you down the road....
That is one of our favorite stops in West Texas; we have visited often, but always in winter! Many times we've seen steam rising off the pool and the surrounding marsh... and I promise you that 76 feels very fine on a cool winter afternoon. :) Too bad you don't have time to visit Ft. Davis and the state park there, and the observatory up the mountain - but it sounds too hot to enjoy them, anyway.

I love pools! Incredible that this one, built by the CCC in the 1930s is still usable today. They certainly had real craftsmen building things.
ReplyDeleteWell you are a smart two some....pools and electric in your campsite in the Southwest.
ReplyDeleteI should have consulted with you before I came out here!
I want to go there...it sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteHave fun in Deming!
