Rainy Weekend..

It was a rainy weekend here in the Texas hill country and it ushered in some colder temps.  It dropped down to 59 last night.  The weather today should be warm with a slight chance of Thunderstorms.
We started off today with a 10 mile bike ride on the LBJ ranch
It is such a peaceful place. On this cool, clear morning it is
obvious why LBJ loved it here so much.  The picture to the right is his grandfathers house. He used to walk down to get a treat of stick candy from his grandfather.
Below is the original entrance to the ranch house.  It was just this small bridge over the river.  Quite often, the water ran over the bridge and apparently LBJ
took great pleasure in surprising his guests by splashing through the water at high speed.

I can just see him laughing as he charges across the river in a jeep. Today we will explore a little more of Fredericksburg and maybe wine a little.  Tomorrow, we are heading over to Kerrville to check it out and visit the museum of western art . See you down the road....

  4. pretty fancy to have a small bridge over the river! Our little 'ranchette' in the hill country just had a concrete pad on the creekbed - so, we always had to drive thru the water - the trick was deciding when the water was too deep and you risked floating your vehicle off the pad (that was bad).

  6. Hope you get enough rain so the blue bonnets will have a good bloom next spring.

  7. Didn't know that LBJ had a sense of humor, all the pictures of him he seems so stern. Except for the one where he showed off his scar on his stomach from his operation, then there was the one where he lifted his beagle by the ears, then there was the one... ;c)

    Enjoy the cool!

  10. I just finished reading another of Robert J. Caro's books on the life of LBJ so it was interesting reading your post and seeing some of the places that were talked about in the book.
