Enjoying the Hill Country

Yesterday, we headed out to
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.  Isn't that a wonderful sign?  "heyduke" tells me he helped to build it.  We enjoyed the part of the loop trail around the park.  It was about 3.5 miles.
We hoped to see some birds but it was a bit breezy so we did not really get any good looks at birds. We did get a good look at this black squirrel.

Today, we drove Hwy 290 towards Austin.  We enjoyed the views got some lunch and then -surprise- stopped at a winery.

Bell Springs Winery not only had a few good wines, but it also had a dog :).  We were sitting outside with Grace enjoying a glass and she came to say hello.  I thought she wanted to say hello to Grace but she was much more interested in human interaction.

She brought me a toy to throw.  I tossed a couple of times and then- uh -oh I threw it in the tree.  She was not happy with me. However, she decided to give me another go.  She ran off to get another toy.  Catherine took a video while we played.
I always wanted a dog who could do that! This afternoon, I got to have one for a little while.  I thought maybe Grace would play along but she couldn't be bothered. We are having beautiful weather. The hill country is really nice this time of year!

  2. Emma will sometimes go after a tossed toy, but she seldom brings it back to me. :)

  3. Just moseyed on over and enjoyed your blog. I'm now a follower. We have a few things in common, like birdwatching, full-timing, and hiking.

We just love Kerrville and Fredericksburg too. Enchanted Rock is on our list of places to hike. Looking forward to keeping up with your travels.

  8. That pooch can catch a frisbee better than I can. I hate it when a dog shows me up. ;c)

Looking at all those rocks making up that sign tells me I should always remain on heyduke's good side. :cO

  9. Oh no is his/her original toy lost in the tree forever? Oh well, maybe s/he has a short memory. It really is fun to throw the frisbee for a dog who likes to do all the work. Our beagles would humor us a few times but it was clear the fetch thing was our idea not theirs.

Beautiful sign for what looks like a good place to stop for a while. I know just nothing about Texas so I'm glad you are educating me. Thanks.

  10. I highly recommend a stop at Central Market for fresh fruits/veggies, cheese and olives while you are in the Austin area. Nutty Brown Cafe has a great buffet on Sundays as well. Right on 290 on your way to Austin.
