We decided to head out for a hike yesterday. We drove up to the Florida Mountains, Spring Canyon State Park.
This is an old park built by the CCC in the 30's. When I was growing up here, the roads were not maintained. The only way to get up was a four wheel drive or high clearance 2 wheel and some aggressive driving:). The CCC picnic area was located high up on the mountain with great views. It was one of my favorite places. Now, it has been refurbished with nice tables and good roads in the lower area. You still have to hike to get up to the old picnic area.
We enjoyed a nice two mile hike. It was beautiful but a little warm. We are still hanging out in Deming with my parents.
See you down the road...
Looks like a nice hike...fun day!
ReplyDeleteIt is just amazing how much work the CCC did and how few places we'd be able to travel if they hadn't constructed them.
ReplyDeleteI always marvel at the quality of workmanship that they did and without heavy equipment.
Beautiful view!

Nice hike...very pretty area!! Love all the stuff CCC did for us:o)))
ReplyDeleteSo glad it's all still there and in good condition. Those CCC boys did fabulous work. I can't help but wonder if such an Federal organization wouldn't be a great thing now. Lots of people need jobs. Lots of jobs need doing. But I wonder if we 21st C folks are willing to work as hard as those boys did in the great depression.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pics from up there - nice hike!
ReplyDeleteVery nice hike! It's amazing work those CCC guys did. I agree with Sherry. We should be doing the same thing now and it should have started 4-5 years ago.
