Marfa TX, Down Time..

As we left the campground en route to Marfa, we had to wait for some of the locals to cross the road.  There are lots of Javelina around.  They come through the campground leaving scent that puts Grace in a frenzy.  She fancies herself a great Javelina tracker.
We arrived in Marfa about 11:00 am.  Marfa was founded in the 1880's as a railroad  water stop.  In recent years, it has become known as a modern art community.  There were quite a few studios and galleries. Unfortunately, most were closed on Wednesday.

We visited the EL Paisano Hotel. It was built in 1930It closed in the 1970's but was purchased in 2001 and has been restored with 33 rooms and suites now available.
In 1955, Marfa was selected as the location of the filming of "Giant".  The cast and crew lived in the Paisano during the filming and there is a nice display of artifacts from the movie.   It made me want to go home and watch it.( Yes - "Giant" made the cut of things we had to take with us on our travels.)
We headed back to the campground and just hung out the rest of the day.  Today we move on to Big Bend. We have enjoyed our time here at Davis Mountains. See you down the road....

  3. Javelinas parading down the middle of the road. Never have seen that before. Can't wait to hear about Big Bend. Met a guy at the kayak dock today who said it was one of the most fabulous parks he'd been to.
