As we were wrapping up our morning walk, we met up with some of our friends here and were discussing our plans. We mentioned lunch at the brewpub with Gail and Rick. They informed us the brewpub is closed on Wednesday - Oops. A call to Gail and Rick and we have rescheduled for Friday. Our freshwater pump had been leaking a little bit. I ordered a new one from PPL in Houston and we got that installed in the morning. Since t was a really nice day, we decided on a bike ride. We took the bikes up to Charlie's Pasture nature preserve. It is a city park with about 5 miles of trail. A good place to ride, run or walk. There is a birding platform at the end of one trail. We climbed up to see what we could see...
We found the spoonbills although I could not get a very good picture. We also saw this long billed curlew.
One of our friends has been on about cooking oysters on the grill. Since it was such a nice day, we decided to give it a try. Oh my gosh, it was so easy and they were sooo good. Just wash them, toss them on the grill and wait for them to pop open.
They were really easy to shuck and we sucked down three dozen in the blink of an eye. We decided that we must do that again. Just for good measure, we also cooked shrimp - boiled a dozen and grilled a dozen. The food was excellent. Someone even thought to bring some vegetables, to make it an official feast. It was a really good day - what being at the beach with friends is all about. See you down the road....

Love oyster's, we learned to shuck them at my sisters last year in Pensacola. Looks like you all had a great beach party. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteLoved the Long Billed Curlew. Never saw one of them before. Can't imagine how they manage the long bill!?!?
