We started out this morning with a trip to the farmers market and craft fair. They have it every Saturday on main street. It was a pretty typical craft fair with some vegetable stands in the mix. We picked up some tomatoes, corn and breakfast burritos. Then we went to a local laundry mat and did our wash. Catherine requested really good chili rellenos for lunch. It did not require much thought.
If you are in this part of New Mexico, and want the best chili rellenos "Chope's bar and Cafe" is the place. It is really just a dive biker bar located in the valley along the Rio Grande. They are famous for their rellenos. They sell t-shirts and bumper stickers with a picture of a green chili that say "Stuff It!".
It is a bit of a drive. But it is a very nice drive through pecan orchards (best pecans in the country come from New Mexico), and fields of corn, chili, cotton, and alfalfa.
And at the end of the drive.......
After a relleno plate, and a couple of "Tecates", we came back to the RV for a nap. Grace had her first RV bath, which worked out just fine. We will be pulling out tomorrow for Cloudcroft, NM and hopefully some cooler weather. See you down the road....
OMG. It's 5:08 pm and I'm thinking about what I want for dinner (which I will have to make). After reading this, all I want is to go to Chope's for chile rellenos! You are BAD!
ReplyDeleteI sure would have had a hard time driving through an avenue of pecan trees and not jumping out to pick them. Although I suppose this isn't really the season for them yet is it?
ReplyDeleteThe rellenos looked yummy. But how hot were they??
Chope's bar and Cafe is now on my list since I am a relleno fanatic...
ReplyDeleteWe're still trying to stuff our stuff in the motorhome. Have to get one of those bumper stickers.
