Petroleum Museum, and A Visit from the Twins,

Yesterday, we visited the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum.  It is a nice museum.  As you might expect, most of the exhibits are dedicated to exploration, and drilling for oil in the area.  It was very interesting. It is nice to know how all that equipment that we see rolling down the roads, on all those trucks is used. This part of the museum does need some updating.  A major renovation is planned for 2012.  As you might not expect, they also had a wonderful gallery of art depicting the early history of the area and "life in the oil patch".  They have the largest collection of artwork by Tom Lovell and several works by John Scott and Frank Gervasi.  It was a fantastic display of artwork and we really enjoyed it.  They also have a gallery dedicated to the Chaparral race car.  Jim Hall was from Midland and Chaparral cars were built here.

It is a really good exhibit with a nice film and several of the actual race cars that you can see and one that you can even sit in. We learned a lot about Chaparral cars and I learned that my butt is too big, for me to be a race car driver :).

They also have a nice outdoor exhibit of drilling and pumping equipment.  We did not spend too much time there as it was getting hot.  We tried to get some Thai food but the restaurant is on vacation until August 1. We settled for a Texas Burger, and headed home.

Early this morning the twins came to visit.  We watched them graze and play for quite awhile.   It was a fun way to start the day.
See you down the road....

  1. I think that car would make a great toad. You'd be the talk of every campground you visited!

  2. That car looks tighter than our old Miata was. The fawns are just too cute. I could watch them for hours. Stay cool. :)
