Getting to Know the Neighborhood

 One of the best things about our condo complex is a 1.5 mile trail that goes around the island.  The pictures in this post are some of our new "neighbors" we usually meet on our morning stroll.

 We are also learning the surrounding area.  We can walk to most anything we need - grocery store, post office, bank, drug store.  There are also several restaurants, an ice cream place and a coffee bar - all within walking distance.

 The restaurants are all local places - no chains. We really like that because we like to shop local.  There are also some gift shops and galleries in the immediate area.

  
We have had a lot of rain in the past few days.  However, it has kept the temps down.  We have had some very nice early morning and evening temps making for nice strolls around the property.

 All that rain can really mess up your hair.  I thought this guy on the left was a rat at first.  Then, I realized it was a very drenched squirrel. 

  

We have several resident Osprey's.  They hang out on the buildings. 

  

After the rains, the Ibis are always out feeding.

  
There are also several night herons - both black and yellow crowned - that nest in the mangroves. 

So far, we are liking the neighborhood.  We have even met a few of the non-feathered neighbors and they all seem very nice. Grace has made a couple of new four legged friends.

Today, we walked to town for a coffee and pastry and then went to neighboring Gulfport.  We walked around there and had lunch. We are hoping we will be able to see fireworks from our balcony tonight.
