| The Sun Sets on 2011 |
New Year's Eve started quietly. We headed up to the local gym to work out and were about the only people there. We got finished and stopped in the house to say "Good Morning" to the parents. After some conversation, Catherine headed to the coach to finish her departure prep. When I got there, I was greeted with "coach won't start." Ok - been cold- battery probably weak - still plugged in to shore power - try battery boost. "Tried it -did not work." Ok - try again. "Click, Click, Click"
I start the generator - that always works -- "Click, Click, Click." Ok - let me get my Dad. Dad pulls his truck around, with the largest set of jumper cables I have ever seen - hooks up - "Click Click Click"
Now Catherine shouts "What did you just do? The slide stopped retracting." Say What? I push the button myself, I can hear the slide motor "Click, Click, Click." Meanwhile, my dad checks the battery - seems to have 12 volts. We all stop to scratch our heads. Dad goes to get "Billy" - "best auto electric guy" in Deming. While he is gone, we try various things with no results. Catherine gets on internet - bad battery is the internet diagnosis. Hmm....... Dad shows back up with Billy . "Try it" Billy says "Click, Click, Click" - repeats this several times while moving his little meter around and crawling under the coach. Finally, looks at me, smiles, shakes his head and asks my dad for a wrench. He tightens the positive battery post, hooks up the giant jumper cables says "Try it." The coach roars to life. The slides come in, and all is right with the world. Whew..
Thank you -- Billy. (Billy owns Harris Auto Electric in Deming - he would not accept payment. The least I can do is give him a shout out.)
We finished our prep and headed to Las Cruces, got checked in to Hacienda RV park and set up. We made a nice dinner, ordered "Dolphin Tale" on pay per view, enjoyed the beautiful sunset and just relaxed. For us - the perfect ending to 2011.
Happy New Year everyone.....See you down the road....
WHEW!! Great place to have a problem, where you have so much support close at hand. If I'm ever needing anything in Deming Billy will be the man. And now you know what to check if such a thing ever happens again.

Happy New Year! Sounds like a relaxing way to end the year!
ReplyDeleteThose kind of problems are always so stressful. At least the solution was minor.

So glad the 'click, click, click' went away;o))
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to following your travels this year.
Happy New Year!!
Boy, that was a lucky call to Billy! It's nice to have someone who knows what he's doing, for sure. We always assume the worst, and it's so nice when a simple fix does it.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you both!
Loose, or dirty battery terminals are very common. Now you know. Bet you never have that problem again. Nice of Billy to help you out, what a great guy!
ReplyDeleteWhew -- really glad your problem was an easy fix!
