Worn Out- Long, Frustrating Day

We had strong thunderstorms all night last night.  This area needs the rain, but being in a metal box with a dog that hates storms is a prescription for no sleep!  We got a little sleep this morning when the storms subsided.  I crawled out of the rack about 7:30 and soon thereafter, Catherine says "our monitor panel is going crazy."  I look over and sure enough it is blinking and carrying on something fierce.  On closer inspection, it is wet!  That is not good.  Electronics and water don't mix.  I grabbed a screwdriver and took  the panel off.  There is water on all the wiring.  We dried it out with the hair dryerOnce we got it dry, everything was working normally.  The only thing on the roof above that panel is the radio antenna for the outside radio (that we rarely use).  Since we were taking the coach back to Iron Horse this morning to have the jack sensor installed, I decided just to have them reseal around that antenna.  Hopefully , that will do the trick.   We arrived at Iron Horse at 10 for our 10:30 appt.  We did some errands and checked back about noon.  They were still working on the coach.  I went to talk to the guy working on it and he told me the sensor did not fix the problem.  They worked on it for another hour and determined that it is the circuit board for the jacks.  The jacks work perfectly but the indicator light for the front right jack does not come on even though the jack deploys, as it should.  The jacks work. So, I will probably just leave it for now  ( my guess is that the circuit board will be costly -maybe I will try just cleaning it off ).  That worked for me on a VCR that my cat threw up on. Despite the issue with our ignition switch and the sensor,  I like the people at Iron Horse.  I was able to go in the shop and talk to the techs about what they were doing and why.  They even took me through the HWH troubleshooting guide on the jacks. My first job was at my mom's John Deere dealership.  It gave me a good understanding of what goes in to trying to diagnose problems and fix them. It is not always easy and sometimes the most likely issue is not the problem.  I also have a pretty good idea of when someone is giving me the runaround or doesn't know what they are doing. These guys are straight up and were really frustrated that they could not fix my issue.  We got back to the campground about 2:30 and are enjoying a relaxing afternoon.  It will be early to bed for us tonight.

See you down the road....

  1. We saw on the news about the flooding in Texas and thought about all of our RV friends there. Hope you can stay dry. Be safe.

  4. We got all of about 3 drops here. I think we dodged a bullet.

Sure hope resealing that antenna will do the trick. We spent almost an entire year looking for a leak. Those buggers could be anywhere!

  5. Stay positive, You will get it all worked out I am sure. We fought our jacks for our first 6 months. It can be frustrating but the rewards are worth it.

  6. You have a GREAT attitude!!

I just loved reading " my guess is that the circuit board will be costly -maybe I will try just cleaning it off ). That worked for me on a VCR that my cat threw up on".

Made me LOL. If it worked on cat vomit I'd give it a try too. If the jacks work, that's what's important. You can look at them with your own eyes and forget the light. We agree with you. Forget the board.

Sure hope the water is sealed out for you.

  7. If we had have had strong storms, it would have been me that kept the dog up! I hate bad weather.

Have you ever heard of Eternabond tape? My husband is resealing all the roof openings in our motorhome with it. Caulk just doesn't last very long and can cause some big problems. It's great stuff...do it once and never have to think of it again. Might be another good project for you!
