We are staying at home base in Garden City this week and it just so happens that one of the big events of the year was this weekend.
We went to the community center yesterday to watch a little bit of the festivities. In particular, the "pig scramble." First we watched the exhibition of boar goats. They are meat goats.
I walked around to see some of the other animals in the barn. In my youth, I showed hogs. I don't think I ever had one as large as this fella though.
After the judging, it was time for the pig scramble. First up, ages 4 and under :)- the contestants line up.
Here come the pigs!
The four and under group had to get a balloon off the pigs tail. First one to turn in a balloon wins - ready, set, go......
Next up, 5 & 6 years old - they have to grab the green ribbon off the pigs tail.
Girls won the first two age groups :). Now 7 and 8 years old - they have to put a plastic lei around the pigs neck. Pigs really resist this .....
One young man managed to get it done.
A slice of "Americana." We enjoyed watching the young folks show there animals and chase the pigs. Nice to see kids doing something that does not involve a TV, computer or cell phone. We headed home and watched some football with our friends and had a nice big fire in the fireplace. We will hang around home base until Sunday, and then we are back to San Antonio. See you down the road.....
It's those slices of Americana that make this lifestyle so much fun!
ReplyDeleteI agree about the kids not being in front of a screen of some kind. A fun time for all chasing those pigs, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely hillarious! Nice clean innocent fun that requires no electronics. Hope it didn't make the pigs TOO nervous.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your offer to help out in the Tampa doctor search! RV friends are the greatest!
Man I wish I was a kid again so that I could have participated! That looks like it was so much fun! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteReally cool fun!
ReplyDeleteOf course the only way I'd like a pig scramble is with my eggs scrambled and the pig in the form of bacon... ;c)
I like pigs too. Pork chops, bacon, ham, barbeque, roast...
