Monday, we had an appointment at Iron Horse RV in San Antonio. We needed an oil change on both the coach and generator and to have the jacks checked out. One leg is very slow retracting. We dropped the rig off at 7:30. The place is very close to Catherine's parents house. I did some chores for her parents, while Catherine and her mother went shopping and to lunch. We came back to Iron Horse to check the progress about 2:30. The parts guy says " I think you are all finished but we had to order a sensor for your Jack" "You will have to come back and we will install it". OK- no big deal. Then he picks up the walkie talkie and asks if the coach is finished. I hear "we have an issue" :(.
That is just never good. Out comes the Service manager- "Have you been having problems with the ignition switch?".
"Not a bit"
"Well, it is frozen"
"Ok, I will go over to "Lowes" and then come back".
We come back about 30 minutes later- rig is still in the bay. I head over to see what is going on. The rig is running and the tech says "Don't lose any of the parts I am going to leave here". Again, these are not good words. The service manager explains that they have ordered a new ignition switch, but it will not be here until tomorrow. So, they will drive the rig around to their hookups and we can spend the night. The tech parked it for us and then tells us not to try to drive anywhere, as the steering wheel is not really connected. No chance of that.......
So, here we sit. our first night in a service facility. We are annoyed that the switch broke. ( "!@&&*% GM parts" to quote the service tech.) However, we feel very lucky that it broke in the service bay of an authorized workhorse facility. If it had happened anywhere else, we would have had to be towed.
The new switch should be here about 10:00 this morning and we will still have to come back to have the jack sensor installed. It was actually more quiet here than the campground - no trains. Grace likes it. There is a big grassy area where she got to run off leash.
It does not matter where we are parked. If she has a bully stick to chew and a piece of carpet to stretch out on - she is home.
Another lesson to be learned from our dogs :) See you down the road...
Yep -- definitely don't like "issues." But what a stroke of luck that if the switch had to break that it did so at the repair shop.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the issues but it looks like Grace has it all figured out!
ReplyDeleteVery lucky it happened there! When our starter decided to die, it was no small feat to get her to a repair facility. That's when I fell in love with Coach-net :) Glad you didn't have to go through that!
ReplyDeleteHaving an extensive history in repair shop parking lots, if you can get out in a day or two consider yourselves lucky! :)
ReplyDeleteWe can learn so much from dogs. Hope things went well.

Ah, yes, the famous Workhorse ignition switch failure. You are not alone, many others have had this same problem. Now you can cross that off your list.
ReplyDeleteIt is not the worst thing in the world to overnight at a service facility. You still are "home" and Grace is happy.
OOH! That looks like a bionic arm in there! Hope you are back on the road soon!

Sorry you had the problem, but it couldn't have happened in a more convenient spot. So cool that...Home is where you park it!!
