Matisse, Riverwalk

Today, we went to the San Antonio Museum of Art to see the Matisse Exhibition.  It was very well done.  It is part of the collection from the Baltimore Museum of Art.  Most of the pieces were collected by Clairbel and Etta Cone.  They were given to the Baltimore museum in 1950.
There were a significant number of drawings in addition to paintings and sculpture.  They also had an exhibit of Art books collected by Bank of America.  The museum has free General admission Sunday's from 10-12. So, we only had to pay the $15 for the special exhibit.
Catherine was able to stand in for the model in "the purple robe" painting.  I think she looks great :)

We had planned to eat at "The Luxury" next door to the museum.  It is a newer restaurant-made of shipping containers.  However, we arrived a bit early and did not want to wait in the heat for them to open.  Also, the beer and wine list was much more impressive than the menu.  We may have to stop in here for an afternoon beer sometime.
We decided to walk down the Riverwalk to Pearl and find a new restaurant.

It was a bit warm.  But, this part of the Riverwalk is really nicely done with lots of plants, flowers and a few flying fish :).
We ate at "The Arcade".  It was pretty good but a bit pricey- Ok beer list- Big list of cocktails.

We really enjoyed the day.  It was fun to see lots of people enjoying the museum, Riverwalk and the Pearl complex despite the heat.

We took shelter in the rig during the afternoon.  Today, we are going over to Catherine's parents to help out with some household chores.

  1. I agree Catherine looks great and Matisse would surely have wanted her in his paintings. While we lived in Virginia for so long we went to the National Gallery often so when you said $15 to tour the special exhibit I was shocked. Been a long time since I've been to another art museum obviously.

  2. Flashback to the eighth grade when I had to do a report on Matisse and never had (and still haven't) seen any of his work in person. I'd have loved to tag along with you on that visit.
