We stayed for 6 races. We had a nice lunch, bet on 5 races and cashed 3 tickets- came out a buck ahead :).
It was a fun day.
Our traditional Christmas Eve dinner is tamales. At the Saturday market in St. Pete, I had noticed a vendor selling them. I bought some and put them in the freezer. The secret to microwaving frozen tamales is to wrap them in wet paper towels and then heat them. It keeps them very moist. They were very good- not quite New Mexico- but pretty close.
We had a beautiful Christmas Eve sunset and then enjoyed another tradition of watching "A Tuna Christmas". If you have never seen it, I can't really explain it, except to say that it is very funny.
This afternoon we have been invited to share Christmas with some friends. I made us some gingerbread pancakes with cinnamon pears for our christmas breakfast. They came out pretty good.
Tomorrow is Catherine's Birthday. We are planning to visit the Ringling Museum in Sarasota for her special day. We have never been there and are looking forward to it.
We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Day!
The End!
Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Happy Birthday Catherine and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteTomorrow is our granddaughter Taylor's birthday, too. See, special people have their birthday the day after Christmas. :c)
ReplyDeleteThat's a tamale? I've never had one, but I thought they were a corn meal type thing with reddish stuff in the middle wrapped in a corn husk. Shows you what a Swedish girl from Chicago knows. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a tamale, I just put green chile sauce and cheese on top.
DeleteSounds like a great Christmas day. Thanks for the tamales tip and that GORGEOUS sunset. It is so interesting to read about everyone's different holiday traditions. HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow Catherine. I had no idea so many of my friends were born in December.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you both, and looking forward to hearing about Catherine's birthday celebration!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Catherine. Enjoy your day.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a nice Christmas. I might have to get some of those Tamales. What flea market did you go to? We're going to come see you one of these days!
The Saturday Market-downtown St. Pete.
DeleteHappy Birthday Catherine, hope you have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThose gingerbread pancakes you made looked absolutely awesome.
I'm glad to see you both had a wonderful Christmas Day.
