Chile sauce, Market, Movie, and Rain.

My brother sent me some red chile for christmas.  Friday, I decided to get busy making it in to sauce. First, I washed the chile in the sink and removed the stems and most of the seeds.

Then I boiled them up in a pan until they were nice and soft.

Next, they go in the blender with a little garlic, oregano, onion, cumin and water.

Then the seeds and skins get strained out and the sauce goes into freezer bags.  The box of chile he sent made about 12 cups or six bags of chile sauce.  That should last us until our next trip to New Mexico.
Yesterday, we went to the Saturday Morning Market.
They still had some holiday decorations out and we thought this grinch sign was very well done.
We did some shopping and then decided to go to a movie.
We saw "Saving Mr. Banks".  It was really good.  I never read the Mary Poppins books.  It was interesting to learn about the author.  When I came home, I looked up some more information about her online and came across this documentary done by the BBC -"The Secret Life of Mary Poppins" on you tube. We watched it last night and it is excellent- very interesting.
Today, is pretty much a wash out.  It has rained all day. It is so overcast my christmas lights came on. We really need the rain though. It has been very dry this month.  So, we will watch a little football and enjoy the liquid sunshine.

  1. Loved your step-by-step method of making red chile. A friend of mine in NM showed me how he made it... much the same, except he used one of those "old fashion" food processors... you know... a funnel shaped basket that you use like a mortar and pestle.. Took forever! I envy you your freezer full!

  3. We enjoyed Mr. Banks, too. What patience Walt Disney had, to spend 20 years trying to get the rights to the story. Tom Hanks is an amazing actor, isn't he?

  4. Same question as Sherry about the sauce. What do you use it for? I like my food not at all spicy so I'm guessing this is not for me.

We had clouds most of the day, but not much rain. It appeared most of it went around us. Hoping to see the sun again today...

  8. We seldom have rain here in Palm Springs but yesterday we had some wind and that made it a football day for me - what great games though!

Interesting process on making the chili sauce, thanks!
