Hike, Winery, Hummers, Back To The Farm, Rain
Sunday morning, we decided to go for a hike at Aguirre Springs. Our drive up the mountain started with a beautiful rainbow.
This area has gotten quite a bit of rain this summer. I have never seen these mountains so green.
I really could not believe how many flowers, grasses and weeds had grown up around the trail. It was quite a contrast from the first time we hiked this trail in 2011.
Yesterday, we visited mom and then took on "the bed project" in the rig. The memory foam mattress that came with the rig is very stiff and hot. We decided to get a new mattress. After the switch, we loaded up the memory foam mattress and took it to Deming-( just in case the new one is worse).
After leaving the mattress in my parents guest house, we visited the winery.
We got there just after a shower and as we were enjoying the patio, the hummers attacked the feeders.
They have several feeders and there were at least 10 hummers, all fighting for position. We enjoyed a glass of wine and the hummers, then we headed to my brother's house.
While, Catherine and my sister-in law worked on dinner. My brother and went back to the farm house to look things over again. We got caught in a downpour.
The patio is the best part of this house. It faces the fields and in the distance -the Florida Mountains. I could not get a good picture of the view because it was raining.
As I said, we need to paint. The inside is very colorful :).
It really is a great old house. But as with all old houses, it has some issues.
We enjoyed a nice meal with Cass and Anne ( Brother and SIL). It rained on us all the way back to Las Cruces and we are supposed to get rain for the next few days- not good.
My brother needs to get his chili out of the fields! The rains never come at a good time for farmers, but at least the ranchers will be happy.
Today, we are ducking the rain and planning to do a few errands and a little shopping in Old Mesilla. We were supposed to have the breeze washed but we rescheduled to Thursday.

It does look pretty green down there alright. I never really think of rain when I hear about Las Cruces but I guess it does help some things.
ReplyDeletePretty Hike and Hummers!! Glad you two find time to get out and enjoy nature. Hope the mattress is a keeper. What a hassle to move them in and out of a motorhome;o(
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures of the farmhouse. Maybe the view on another day. It is always wonderful to walk a familiar trail in different weathers and times to be surprised at how things change. Sounds like fun times. Well, moving the mattress not so much. :-))
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in how your new mattress works out. We want to ditch our Sleepless Number mattress but can't decide what is the best replacement.
ReplyDeleteWe have two hummingbird feeders on our MH, one on a window on each side. It's amazing how they fight over the feeder. Makes us laugh a lot at their antics.
At home we use the sleep # with a memory foam topper. I love it but Catherine things the memory foam is hot. We just bought an air bed for the MH. So far it is more comfortable.
DeleteLove that porch!
ReplyDeleteHope the mattress works out. We have a memory foam mattress with a 3" topper. Love it.
The wildflowers are so pretty. We're enjoying the hummers here too.
ReplyDeleteWe bought a "BedinaBox" mattress and absolutely love it. It's not hard or hot, but we do have a thick mattress pad on it. Nothing worse than trying to find the right mattress.
