Off to a Rough Start.

We got off to a bit of a rough start on our trip.  Yesterday, we were finishing up our packing and going over our "to do" list for the condo and we came to "turn off water".  I reached behind our little water heater and turned off the water.  The previous owner had an electrostatic filter installed on the air handler, which is located above the water heater. When I turned the water off, the handle hit that filter and then hit me with 220 volts.  Can I just say OUCH!  We decided to just leave the water on, as leaving the handle hitting the device that gave me a shock seemed like a bad idea.  We have someone checking our house every few days. Hopefully ,we will not have any water issues.  When we get back, I will either just have that Electrostatic filter ( not sure it really works) removed or modify the handle for the water shut off. We spent the night at Lazydays to check out the Breeze.  We arrived in a huge rainstorm and realized we forgot Grace's"storm pills" and a couple other things.  So, this morning I went back to the condo and got the things we forgot - this is where full timing is better :).   We hooked up the truck for the first time - everything was OK.  It was not that hot, so I did not fire the generator hoping to save a little fuel for the first few hours of our trip ( only thing we did not check).

About 11:00, we decided it was getting hot so we fired the generator in order to run the roof air.  Generator purred like a kitten- no power to the coach:(  I called Anson from Tiffin.  He gave me several things to check- nope.  He thinks it is the transfer switch.  We stop at camping world in Lake City. They get us in right away, even though they are very busy.  They confirm it is the transfer switch.  We can stay there and Tiffin will send the part and reimburse us for the labor or we can press on to San Antonio and they will work with Iron Horse to get it fixed for us.  We decide to press on.  It will be hot days but we will just try to get on the road early. Anson also told me he could help me" wire around" the switch.  That makes me nervous ( I am afraid I will screw up our shore power) so we will probably just huddle up around the dash air - it actually is pretty cool. It is sort of like being in the Uhaul :).  We will start as early as we can to try to stay cool.  It is always an adventure!
"Update- our fridge struggled because the coach got so hot.
So, we decided instead of stressing us and  the fridge and Grace.  We would just head back to Tampa for a few days and get our transfer switch fixed.  The only event we are going to is at the end of September.

  1. Boy -- you are braver than I am. I can't believe that any part of the filter you could touch with a water shutoff is supposed to be live -- and certainly not with 240 V.A.C. I'd be afraid to leave for fear that what ever is shorted out would cause a fire while I'm gone.

Good luck on the trip though... I always feel better when the wheels are turning...

    Cheers,

    1. It is not a short. There is a big warning telling you not to touch it. It should not have been installed where the water valve would hit it.

  3. Take care of yourselves! Yee-ouch.

[Just what you need, someone telling you something may be shorted out and could cause a fire. Holy smokes.]

  4. I still smile when ever I think, "Oh, I have everything I own with me;o)" It would really be difficult to try and remember all the stuff we need to pack!!

Glad you weren't hurt worse by that shock...scarey moment!!

Hope you get the air fixed ASAP and that is the end of those little problems for the rest of this trip.

Yes, we will be at Lazydays in January:o))

    Safe Travels and Happy Trails....

  5. You certainly did have a rough start. Glad you weren't hurt with the shock. That must have been scary.

Can I have some of Grace's storm pills? :)

I'm sure Lazy Days will get you taken care of quickly and you'll soon be on the way...again.

    Safe travels.

  7. Just call it a 'test run', get everything fixed up and you'll be on your way again in no time flat.

That filter thing in your condo sounds pretty sketchy - water and electricity are never a great combo!

  8. You certainly lit up your life with that electrical shock! That's some serious voltage, glad you are okay, your guardian angel was watching over you.

Sorry that you had some issues with the Breeze, but you are taking it in stride and handling everything very well. Hope all gets fixed fast so you can get rolling again!

  9. Boy wouldn't it have been nice if you had been sitting in Lazy Days when you discovered the generator issue. I think Murphy was just sending you home to fix that water/electric mess before you leave. Your second run will be perfect I'll bet!
