Life at the Beach

We went back to check on the Breeze Friday and she fired right up.  We let the Engine and Generator run for a while and I put her new license plate on.  We will spend next week getting ready to take off  for a few weeks.
Living by the water is not all good.  Sometimes you have to wait for the draw bridge.  Sitting there looking over the water while a big sail boat goes under the span.  It is rough......:)
This morning we walked on St. Pete Beach again.  When we came to the Black Skimmer nesting grounds, they went a little berserk.  They were making all kinds of racket and it was clear that they really wanted us to move along. They even dove at us a couple of times.

Finally, we saw what all the fuss was about.  The pictures are not great, but if you notice the one in the middle is a little guy.  After we looked around, there were several youngsters mixed in with the crowd of adults.  We watched them for a minute but it was clear our presence was making them nervous.  So, we moved along.

On our way home, we stopped for a pastry at the Italian bakery and coffee shop.  The pastries were very good. They also had some good looking bread and Pizzas.  We will have to stop by that place again.
This evening, we are having a group of friends over for happy hour.  It should be a fun gathering to end a good weekend.
The End!

  2. Considering how early it gets warm in Florida, I'm surprised the skimmers only now have young. I would have expected them much earlier in the year.

    1. We were surprised too. We talked to someone on the beach who said they hatched about 3 weeks ago.

  3. Glad you got to see the little skimmers. Hope everyone is as considerate of them as you two. We have a hard time resisting those bakeries too. Sure glad they aren't usually within walking distance for us. We'd be in trouble.

  6. I just saw a Black Skimmer in my new Sibley book and thought it would be cool to see one. Pretty cool you got to see them with their young.

Bakeries...my downfall. Love a good bakery treat, or two.

  7. Finding a good bakery near enough to walk to would be a real killer for me - I'd be there every morning!!

  9. What a great area you chose to live. I was hoping to get a chance to get over and visit, but it looks like we waited too long since you're getting ready to head out. Guess we'll have to wait until fall.
