We don't seem to be able to move without an adventure. I decided at the last minute that we should just tow the truck back so we could ride together. This was working out perfectly until we landed in Beaumont. Upon arrival at the hotel, I made a sharp turn to get the rig parked. The truck slipped on the tow dolly. We had to call a tow truck to come help us get it off the dolly because the chain on on side was too tight to release after it slipped. This was after numerous calls to Uhaul- where they were no help at all. We then took the dolly to the local Uhaul place. We were told that the truck tires are too big for that dolly and it should not have been loaded in the first place. He documented it. So we should be able to get our money back.
Today's lesson - when the guy loading you up says that truck is kind of big for this dolly- ask more questions! Everything is OK. We will just ride separately for the rest of the journey.

Nerve wracking! So glad it wasn't worse...just very aggravating!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pain that was, but at least you got it taken care of.
ReplyDeleteEek!
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys are ok and it was nothing too serious!
ReplyDeleteha ha!
ReplyDeleteYOU HAD TO GO AND USE THAT PHRASE!
When we were preparing to marry -- 44 1/2 years ago -- my wife to be had been living in Toledo, I had been living in Chicago and she was moving all her trousseau to be with me. She arrived in Chicago a couple days before her things. Mom and dad piled all her belongings into a UHAUL and headed West on the Turnpike with an approximate schedule already agreed upon.
4 hour after they were to have arrived we finally received a phone call (remember these were the days before cell phones) -- the UHAUL had experienced fuel line problems; the tow truck had just deposited them at a repair shop and with any amount of luck they'd be on the road again in another 2 hours.
Forever after, the term "Adventure in Moving" has not only been reserved for UHaul -- but also in a not very happy light.
Glad your experience worked out as well as it did.
Cheers,
Peter

Oh my goodness. I'm so glad there was no damage. I must admit I do always worry just a tad about my car and the dolly but in 3 years, so far no problem. Sorry you had to ride separately but you sure did fly out there and back.
ReplyDeleteSo glad it worked out and no one was hurt. Stay safe the rest of the trip.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a U-Haul loader may be getting asked a few questions!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to keep a stiff upper lip about the whole "adventure". Thank goodness there was no damage, sometimes you win one. ;c)
