Sunday, we left Grace at Grandma's house and headed to Gruene,(pronounced "green"). Gruene is home to the oldest dance hall in Texas- Gruene Hall. We arrived about 12:30 and a band was already playing and folks were enjoying a dance. The Dance hall was built in 1878 and many great Texas musicians like George Strait, Lyle Lovett, and Jerry Jeff walker got started there. Next door to the dance hall, is the old Gristmill. It is now a very good restaurant.
Neither of us, had been to Gruene in a long time. Things have changed a little bit. There are a couple of wineries, new restaurants and lots of shops. On a warmer day, it would be a great place to walk around.
We were there to meet up with some old friends- Lori and Martha. Lori and I went to high school together and Martha is a college friend. It was really great to see them again and catch up.
We enjoyed a good meal at Mozie's sports bar and sort of kept our eye on the football playoffs, while we visited. The meal was great and the company was even better.
Yesterday, we enjoyed a great lunch with Catherine's folks at "dough". We had a really nice time.
Today, Catherine will get a pedicure and we will get the rig ready for departure tomorrow. It will take about 3.5 hrs to get to our destination in Port A. We are hoping to find some warmer temps a little further south!
Thanks for the pronunciation of that town. Never would've guessed that. Safe travels tomorrow.
