Memory Lane...

Hello - this is Catherine.  Today we had a walk down memory lane for me so I thought I would share on the post.  My paternal grandmother and step-grandfather (whom I called Ma and Pa) lived outside DeKalb, Texas (west of Texarkana, TX).  It is difficult to see on the headstone but my Ma was 14 years younger than my Pa when they married in 1946.  Quite the scandal!  After they married, they moved out to "the farm" where my Pa raised cattle and grew hay while also working at a sign company designing and making signs.
Ma and Pa's house at the farm
About 1983, my Ma was deteriorating due to Alzheimers so they had to move to New Boston, TX about 15 miles away so my Pa could have more help.  I had not been back to the farm since around 1978.  We made it back there today and of course, a lot had changed.  There was a new house and various out buildings on the land.  The original house had been moved about two miles down the road but I recognized it immediately.  What memories - including the chocolate pie that Ma would have waiting for me on the small kitchen table when we arrived at the farm.

On the ride out to DeKalb, we noticed a lot of smoke to our right (southwest).  Tonight, Jo Beth got a good picture of it and of the sunset over Wright-Pattman Lake.

Tomorrow, off to Wichita Fall, TX on our way to Albuquerque.  See you down the road....

  3. The beautiful thing about memories is that you can take them with you. Going back to revisit special places and times kind of re-kindles the soul. Stay safe from all of the fires down that way.
