After the baked goods, a hike was in order. There are lots of waterfalls in the area and I like a hike with a destination. So, we decided on High Shoals Falls. This was a really nice hike. We had to cross a running stream in the truck to get there- I was glad we decided to stick with the truck as our toad for now. Our fit might have drowned. It was a nice three mile hike with two separate falls.
Sunday, we visited the Butternut Creek Festival. Not many artists on display. It is a lovely setting in Meeks park but there was not much to see. We came home and enjoyed watching the goldfinch on our thistle feeder. They are really downing the thistle.
Yesterday, another waterfall hike. Raven Cliff Falls. This one was especially nice. The whole trail goes along the stream. It is a longer hike but a very gentle trail.
About 1 mile in, Catherine was leading the way and she did what I call "the snake dance". She takes a deep gasping breath and starts high stepping until she is positioned behind someone else (me). Then says "see if you can get closer to get a picture"! And of course, I do it.
It was just a black snake. But, it was a pretty good sized one.
There are lots of smaller "falls" on this trail and you can hear the sound of the rushing water for most of the hike. We really enjoyed that. Even if it is not really cool it made it seem cooler. The big fall comes down from a crevice in the cliff. It is pretty neat.
We had a nice hike back to the car and finally one of the beautiful swallowtails posed for a picture.
I am not sure what we will do today. It has been pretty hot in the afternoons. Since we failed to get out early, It will probably be a nice day for a drive.
Water fall hikes are my absolute favorites and these two look like beauties. LOVE the description of Catherine's snake dance. Too funny!! People have such a thing about snakes....is it that original Bible story? Funny that we saw a black snake (great for eating rodents around the house) in a tree too just a day or so ago. Hope all the little birdies are fledged.
ReplyDeleteWish I were there. Love that area. Be sure to visit Helen and ride or float the tubes. Great fun. Barbara in Florida
