Wednesday, we got up early and charged up the mountain. We parked and walked up the trail to the visitors center. It was a lovely walk and still just 60 degrees when we arrived at the top. Brasstown Bald is the highest point in Georgia. The view was pretty good but there were still lots of clouds settled down over the nearby mountains.
From up top you can see four states-Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
After our walk up and back down the peak, we drove up the road to Helen. Helen is a Bavarian themed town. We arrived about 11:30 and found a place to get some lunch. I got a beer and a brat on a pretzel bun and Catherine got some veggie spaetzle dish that she really liked.
Today, we are doing some chores around the coach and doing Laundry. This weekend we are going to the Farmer's market and the Butternut Creek Festival.
Next week, we will work on getting some more hiking done.
I'm sure the turtle thanks you!
ReplyDeleteThose clouds roll in and sit on the mountains up here too. They are here and then they are gone. You just never know. I know you must be loving the temperatures.
ReplyDeleteI think German theme in Helen was to bring in tourists.
ReplyDeleteWe've been on Brasstown when it was so clear you could see Atlanta, but we like it on cloudy days too. We even went for sunset one night.
I'm not sure if you hiked the Bear Hair Trail at Vogel, or the waterfall trail, but both are nice.
You aren't too far from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Cherohala Skyway. Both are spectacular drives and the Cherohala has some beautiful waterfalls. It will take you through NC and TN.
Ruby Falls and Rock City are an easy day trip and pretty cool. Both are in Chattanooga.
