Bird Rescue # 2

We have a lot of birds at Harbourside.  This morning Catherine reported two baby ducks.  We were happy to see them because it seems we have not had many survivors this year.
I spent the day puttering around getting things ready to load up the RV while Catherine had an appointment in Tampa.
This afternoon we got a call from another resident.  She was on hand when we rescued the pelican last year.  She said a blue heron was in the front pond with line and a lure hanging from his neck.

I grabbed my gloves, utility knife and wire cutters and Catherine brought a towel.  The other lady had a big fishing net.  I tried to net him and missed.  One of the maintenance guys came over and told me that you have to be real aggressive with the net. He moved quickly and was able to get him in the net.  I held him and he cut off the lure and line using the cutters.

We got all the line off and let him go.  He seemed a little stressed but he was drinking and wading around.  Hopefully, he will make it.

Now, back to packing.  We hope to be headed to North Georgia Saturday.

  4. Fabulous! You are my heroes too! I know he'll do fine. Some fishermen are the absolute worst in terms of trashy and inconsiderate. Safe trip and enjoy the mountains.
