More Waterfall Hikes

We have hiked to so many waterfalls and I have been so bad about posting, that they are all kind of running together in my mind.  Now that we are in the condo, we have given up our millenicom hot spot.   In order to use the park wifi, I have to walk down to the clubhouse and I have been lazy.  It has been pretty hot in there most afternoons.  We have been getting our hiking in during the mornings.
We have visited Anna Ruby falls, Duke Creek Falls, the Tallulah Gorge (lots and lots of stairs). Tallulah gorge was where they filmed the canoe scenes in deliverance.  It just so happened that movie was on TV yesterday and it was fun watching it having just been there.
We tried to do Long Creek Falls but ended up doing a nice long hike on the AT instead (made a wrong turn at the trail head)  No matter, we found a nice brew pub in Blue Ridge.  They made a very good brown ale that we both enjoyed.

We also discovered Byron Herbert Reece.  He was a local poet who wrote about the land and nature.  There is a heritage center at his homestead not far from the RV park, that has some nice displays and an excellent video about his life and work.

We have had a very nice time here in the Georgia mountains.  I think next time we will come later in the year in order to enjoy the fall colors and even cooler weather.  Pictures alone never do waterfalls justice so  here is a video.

I stood in paradise, no land of thrones
Nor of streets of gold, nor of harps, nor of jeweled halls,
Alone, unchallenged, in a place of stones—
Suitable setting for such a quiet as falls
On him just entering. With eager eyes
I looked, and saw the place to which I came
                    Was my own land…

  2. Thank you so much for the beautiful pictures of the waterfalls. Any waterfall is a great one. Sorry to hear the heat made it there to the mountains. We're still doing OK in Shenandoah. Are you at 3500' or more?? I'm not sure I could ever classify watching Deliverance as "fun". :-)

  3. That first photo looks like either Angel or Panther falls. Am I right? If you get a chance, go see Dry Falls in NC. Hope it cools down soon. We'll see you tomorrow!
