Paddling with Dolphins

We took the truck in yesterday for some maintenance. After they went over the truck, they called and recommended that instead of rotating and balancing our existing tires,  we should just buy new ones.  I was not surprised as these tires had about 55k miles on them.  I was surprised when I got the bill.  The tires were less than estimated and they did not charge me for the chassis lube, drive shaft disconnect lube, or vehicle inspection- just 24.95 for the oil change. This shop got great reviews online and I was very pleased with the service.  So- Pasadena Car Care is our shop. It is great to have a good mechanic right down the street.
Last night we tried a new restaurant
Verducci's.  We chose a veggie pizza and it was really good - grilled eggplant, roasted red pepper, and grilled zucchini.  We also saw lots of fresh made pasta going to nearby tables that looked delicious.  They also had a very nice house Chianti for $5 a glass.  I think we will be regulars here.  It is close enough to walk or ride our bikes.  Although, we drove yesterday because it was pretty warm out.

This morning we went out for a paddle in our Sea Eagle. I remembered the play sport camera and was able to get some video of the dolphin. One was chasing fish and you can see the fish jump in front of him.
It was really a fun paddle.  Although when we came back around, we were fighting the wind.  I love the sea eagle but we are hopeful that we will get a slot in the community kayak storage so that we can get a hard side boat.  The sea eagle is great for portability, but it is twice the work to paddle.

We are having a quiet friday night.  Some friends are taking us out to dinner tomorrow to celebrate our nuptials and Sunday we are going to some other friends for lunch and football.  Another great weekend on tap!

  4. You sure found a nice area to settle down. I love that so many things are within walking distance.

We have Sea Eagles, but have the Fast Track 385. They have a harder bottom and you can actually stand up in them. They track and paddle just as well as our old hard bottom kayaks. Might be an option for you if you can't get storage space. We really like them and I had resisted moving to inflatables for exactly the reason you said.

So...you keep teasing us. Are you getting married soon or did you already? Either way, congratulations, and I'm glad you can!

  5. That's what I get for reading this post on my phone early in the morning and losing my comment the first line of which was the exact same as Karen's. What a great neighborhood with so many things to walk to including kayaking with dolphins. It doesn't get much better than that. I feel the same way you do about our Sea Eagle which is why we have kept our hard kayaks. But the sea eagle is very handy to take visitors kayaking in. Karen has been a serious paddler for a long time so I would certainly take her recommendation if I didn't already have 3 kayaks. :-)

  7. Great looking pizza - even if it is a veggie!! Thanks for mentioning the paddling in those Sea Eagles. I never knew the inflatables might be harder to paddle although it makes perfect sense.

    Have fun celebrating this weekend.
