Everyone was bundled up except Emma and Grace, who both seemed to be enjoying the cold. Emma was very excited to see us. Grace was a little timid. But they gave each other a few good sniffs. Emma went in her house and we loaded up to tour the refuge.
It was cold and windy so we were not sure how much we would see. The one thing I was sure we would not see was alligators. But, we did!
As a matter of fact, there are two of them- one on the right and one on the left. The one on the right is hard to see.
Then we saw a flock of whistling ducks both "black-bellied" and "fulvous" varieties. We saw the black bellies last year in Port Aransas but never did see the fulvous - so we were pleased.
There were lots of hawks out hunting and a few of the red-tails posed for us.
Others decided to be camera shy.
After our tour, we had lunch at a pretty decent BBQ place. We enjoyed our day even though it was a little cold and windy.
We said our good byes to Judy and headed back to Beaumont. We listened to the Buccaneers game on the radio and they won-three in a row! This season is a goner, but it is cause for a little optimism for next year.
We are off to San Antonio tomorrow for a week on the river walk. Thanks again Judy, it was great meeting you!
What fun to meet Judy! She's still on my bucket list. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, look for dog friendly restaurants on the Riverwalk for us!
ReplyDeleteAl and Karen,
DeleteTwo dog-friendly restaurants on the Riverwalk are "Charlie Wants a Burger" downtown and "Green Vegetarian Cuisine" at Pearl Brewery Complex. (The one at Pearl is not right on the river, but only a 1/2 block walk.)

Happy to see you're back in Texas. Would you like to get together and hike or drive Mitchell Lake Audubon Wetlands while you're in San Antonio? I'll email you.

What a nice day to spend with Judy...but it sure looks a bit COLD!!! Great photo of the three of you:o))
ReplyDeleteSafe travels...looks like some nasty weather heading across TX!!
How fun to spend the day with Judy!
ReplyDeleteSure hope you don't run into any of that nasty weather that has TX in it's path!
Always enjoy Judy's blog. Sounds like you guys had a great visit
ReplyDeleteHello Catherine, Jo Beth and Grace:
ReplyDeleteI dropped in to your blog after reading Travels with Emma this morning. I'm a relatively newbie almost full-time RVer and have been blogging only about nine months. I've signed on to follow your adventures and am now in your neck of the woods .... I just got to Livingston, TX yesterday and will stay here at Escapees headquarters for two weeks. Then I'm heading to Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. These are states I've either never been to or have flown in to visit. Now's a chance to get to know the real culture and people.
Judy's nature photos I look forward to every time I visit her blog; and yours of your day yesterday are great too.
A little aside .... I'm traveling with my Standard Poodle, Lacy, and my rescue kitty, Eleanor. I lost my Shih Tzu a year ago in Guatemala; she was hit by a car. I've wanted to get another but just can't seem to get to another Shih Tzu. I think my solution may be a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Isn't that what Grace is?
Yes, she is a very good traveler.
DeleteLooks and sounds like Judy gave you both the 'royal tour' complete with 'gators!
ReplyDeleteSure looks cold down there, hope San Antonio is a lot warmer.
Those Fulvous ducks sure are beautiful! I clicked on the bird photos to get a close up view of their faces and necks and wings - really pretty markings. And the hawk! I love the photo of him in flight. I'm glad you and Judy were able to meet up, it was fun to read about your day in two different blogs. :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't Judy just so much fun? She sure knows her birds and other wildlife and has a magical way of finding them. It was great that you took the time to meet with Judy, it is so cool to meet other RV bloggers, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteAnd to think you escaped without having to wash her RV. I guess she's waiting for me... ;c)
No doubt Judy gave you quite a run down, as she did when we saw her in Lake Okechobee! Have a great Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteHow cool that you got to meet Judy and Emma! We love meeting other bloggers.
