Happy Thanksgiving

We arrived in San Antonio- Monday afternoon.  We helped Catherine's parents get loaded up and we all came down to the river walk.  We started our stay with a nice meal at Ostra.  Catherine had blackened red fish on polenta... mmmmm.  I had scallops - wonderful!
Tuesday, we enjoyed a nice exhibit at the San Antonio Museum of Art.  It was called "lethal beauty", featuring swords and armor of the SamuraiIt was very interesting.
Wednesday, we visited the Buckhorn & Texas ranger museum.  The Buckhorn museum collection was started by Albert Friedrich. Albert was the son of Wenzel Friedrich-famous for the furniture he crafted out of horns. This furniture was purchased all over the world. Queen Victoria and Teddy Roosevelt were two famous customers.
Albert started an extensive taxidermy collection which was sold to Lone Star brewery in 1956.  When the brewery was closed in 1998, Friedrich's family purchased the collection back and reopened the museum on Houston street.

In  addition, they have now acquired the Texas Ranger collection from the Witte museum and have extensive exhibits on famous Texas Rangers.  They also have an exhibit on the pursuit and capture of two of the most famous outlaws from Texas - Bonnie and Clyde.
Today, we enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving brunch complete with home made tortillas.  Even if it is not a traditional Thanksgiving food, there is nothing better than a tortilla fresh off the griddle.
Catherine and grace are enjoying an after dinner nap!
 Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
 The End!

  3. Good blog today.

You've given me new inspiration to get over to the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum. We've been talking about going for over a year. Time to get over there! We've walked past it many times on our downtown Volksmarches.
