Monday, we caught up on chores. We put the beds together (having retrieved our forgotten bed rails from Texas) and did some cleaning. It is nice to have our bed up off the floor. We feel like we are sleeping in a big girl bed now :).
Yesterday, we discovered a down side of condo living. One of our neighbors is having tile removed and the process is rattling the whole building. We decided to go for a bike ride and walk on the beach.
On the ride over, we saw this flash of green in the sky. We stopped to watch a flock of Black -Hooded Parakeets.
These are native to South America but have established a population here in St. Pete after being released or escaping captivity. They have been here over 10 years and the population rose to over 100 in the late 90's. I could not find any info on more recent bird counts.
It was good to get toes in the sand again :). We had a nice long beach walk. I left my flip flops on the boardwalk (against Catherine's advice) and returned to find that someone had hijacked them- Bummer.
And they did it, while we were being watched by the Coast Guard!
The chopper is hard to see. I was late asking Catherine to get a picture. It was still a great walk and I needed new flip flops anyway.
The weather is getting just about perfect- a little cooler and a little drier. We are going to take Grace to the dog beach this morning in hopes that the guy upstairs finishes getting that tile out this morning :)

We've seen those parakeets a few times too. Pretty cool, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteI'll bet having the bed off the floor will make it much easier to get up, won't it?
Let me know when the weather gets PERFECT, and I'll think about coming back. For now, it's perfect here, even though it's cooled down a bit. It sure seems like Florida had an extra rainy summer.
Great attitude about losing your flip-flops! Why would anyone steal someone else's flip-flops anyway??
ReplyDeleteMust be nice to be starting the beach season in October!!
I would like to think that the only reason someone would steal your flip flops is because they had no shoes. There is no other acceptable reason so I'm going with that :) Have fun shopping for new ones!
ReplyDeleteare you sure the Parakeets didn't rip them off?
ReplyDeleteHope you scope out those parakeets so you can show me just where they are. They are beautiful. Glad the flip flops didn't seem like much of a loss. I see lots of people leaving shoes, and some expensive ones, while they are out in the sand but I'm always too untrusting to do it. If someone ripped off my oofos Iit would ruin my day.
ReplyDeleteCool Parakeets!!! Someone needed those flip-flops more than you...great attitude. Just consider that you paid it forward;o))
ReplyDeleteWhere is the dog beach ??? DeSoto Beach for dogs ? What a job, removing tile..... That is a tile job even tile setters turn their nose up ..... Too much work .....hope it doesn't go on too long ....sure wish that would have been completed while you were on the road ..... Enjoy the shoe shopping !!!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't know which was worse, the flip-flop thief or the Coast Guard falling down on the job. ;c)
