It was a bit overcast yesterday, but we decided to blow up the sea eagle and go out for a paddle anyway.
Just after we got launched, the clouds broke up a little and we got a perfect day - not too sunny.
And then it got better because we spotted a manatee. We paddled over in the general area and waited.
The manatee was interested in our boat. It finally wandered over next to us and then swam under us several times.
It was very exciting to see it so close. Catherine got a shot of the tail just as it went under the boat.
Finally, it came up to say hello to us. It was so close I could have reached out and petted it- but that is not allowed.
After we finished our manatee encounter, we paddled around and looked at some of the area homes. There are some really beautiful homes in the area.
It was about noon when we finished our paddle. We decided to go out to lunch. We hopped on our bikes and rode down to the sloppy pelican for some college football and waterfront dining.
We enjoyed a seat right by the water.
After lunch, we watched some football at home and that is pretty much what is on our agenda for today.

What a treat to see the manatee close up!
ReplyDeleteWow what great shots of the manatee. You sure do live in a great place. Manatee practically in your backyard. I have to go to Blue Spring every winter to see them.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! It doesn't get much better than that :)
ReplyDeleteSo much fun to paddle and get that close. They are almost at long as the Sea Eagle and bigger around. Love when they go under the kayak!!! Lucky You:o))
ReplyDeleteGlad the manatee went under your boat and not over it! :cD
ReplyDeleteYou've certainly picked a lovely spot to "settle down".
looking forward to seeing the manatees in florida again soon
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the manatee. Did you launch right from your back yard?
ReplyDeleteWhat a great day! Having the Manatee up close and personal is a real bonus. Just another reason we need to get to Florida.
