Grace is happy to be home because she can see her best friend Buddy. She gives him kisses every morning on her walk. He tolerates it pretty well and his mom thinks Grace is really sweet.
Monday afternoon, we checked out the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary. We were thinking this might be a good place to volunteer. The sanctuary is located right on prime beach in Indian Shores. It was started 40 years ago by a gentleman who picked up a hurt cormorant - named him Maynard- and rehabilitated him. People started dropping off hurt birds and soon the garage became a bird hospital.
Currently, the hospital is closed due to lack of funding but they still have over 300 birds (mostly pelicans) in residence that can not be returned to the wild. They have a brand new volunteer coordinator and she has not even begun to go through applications. We spoke with her and told her we would check back with her in a few weeks.
Tuesday, we checked on the Breeze and got our sea eagle. We plan on doing some paddling soon.
Today, I worked with Habitat for Humanity. When we did the RV-Caravaners gig in Las Cruces, a couple wore shirts from Habitat Pinellas County. They said it was a good group that they had worked with several times.
They steered me right. It was a good group. They build 26 houses per year and work all year long.
We had a good day of hard work. We poured concrete in the outside walls and set the hurricane straps in one house and then did finish work in this little green house. It will be dedicated on Saturday.
There are quite a few more items on the punch list for the house. So, I am going back tomorrow to help them finish up.
My plan is to do 1-2 days per week. I enjoy Habitat because even though you are doing physical labor, you learn how to do things and you have to use your brain some too.
Catherine filled out her paperwork to volunteer for the American Cancer Society. We are hopeful that we can coordinate our volunteer activities so that we don't need another car. We will see how that goes.....

Nice to hear you'll be keeping busy with volunteering. They all sound like worthwhile causes. :)

It's always a good thing to work hard and still "use your brain some". Sorry - I just love that phrase!! It should be the new motto for the U.S. Congress.
