At the visitor's center, we watched a pretty good film on the critically endangered cranes and viewed the excellent exhibits. We walked the nearby trail and saw some early blooms of the beautiful flowers.
The folks at the visitor's center said we might get a glimpse of a nesting pair of cranes that have moved into an adjacent subdivision (better schools, I guess). They said it was unlikely that we would see both cranes because one would be with the nest. However, we saw both out feeding. I don't know if that is bad news for their young one or not. There are only 103 of these beautiful birds left. So, it was fantastic to see them. We were so excited!
We stopped for lunch at BB's Poboys and Seafood in Ocean Springs. The food was great. This was one of the best poboys I have ever had. The shrimp just melted in your mouth.
On our way back to Bay St. Louis, we drove Hwy 90 along the coast. What a beautiful drive!
We enjoyed the sculptures carved by artist, Marlin Miller. The trees were killed by the saltwater surge of Hurricane Katrina. They are known as the Katrina Sculptures. They really are fantastic. The artist donated his time and talent to transform the dead trees into works of art.
The beach is just gorgeous, with it's sugar white sand. It was a great drive along this beautiful piece of the gulf coast.
It was a really wonderful day. Tomorrow, back on the road headed for Tampa.
The End (sort of)
Those sculptures of the dead trees are just wonderful. Thanks so much for showing them. This casino RV park looks like a very nice stop over in a great area to see. Let us know if you are coming down 75 and stop over anywhere near Gainesville. Would love to see you.
ReplyDeleteWe probably will not stop over there. Are you guys at Paynes Prairie SP?
ReplyDeleteWe stopped at the MS SCNWR last year and got a private tour with Judy. We saw 23 cranes, it was amazing. :c)
ReplyDeleteYahoo for Mississippi Sandhill Crane NWR! It's a 'cool beans' place in my opinion. :)
ReplyDelete'
Great photos - I have to go with Judy's "cool beans" description (whatever it means)!
ReplyDeleteWe enjoyed the carvings when we were there in November.
ReplyDeleteAny luck at the casino?
